Answer #1

d)

i) For benzene and its derivatives electronic transitions in UV-Vis range are possible. So gradient elution from normal phase of a series of benzene derivatives can be detected by Ultroviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) detectors.

ii) An evaporative light scattering detector is used in conjunction with HPLC to detect monosaccharide. It is commonly used for analysis of compounds where UV detection might be a restriction and therefore compounds do not efficiently absorb UV radiation, such as sugars, antivirals, antibiotics, lipids, phospholipids, terpenoids, and alcohols.

iii) For steroids, Fluorescence detectors are used.
