I understand how to get the balanced equation, but for 2 and 3, I need help getting the substance oxidized, substance reduced, etc. Please help and do #2 and #3 Both parts!

1.) Oxidation - The process in which an element donates/lose electrons. The oxidation number increases.

Reduction - The reaction in which an element accepts electrons. The oxidation number decreases.

Oxidising agent - The species that undergo reduction.

Reducing agent - The species that undergo oxidation.

2.) An equation is said to be balanced when the number of atoms on the reactant side is equal to the number of atoms on the products side.

First balance C. Here its equal on both sides.

CH_4+O_2\rightarrow CO_2+H_2O

Then balance H.

CH_4+O_2\rightarrow CO_2+2H_2O

Now last balance O.

CH_4+2O_2\rightarrow CO_2+2H_2O

Now the equation is fully balanced with respective to all atoms.

3.) Substance oxidised - oxidation number increased one - Both C and H gets oxidised here. CH4 gets oxidised.

Reducing agent - The one that get oxidised - CH4.

Substance reduced - oxidation number decreases - O

Oxidising agent - O2

3.a.) In a redox reaction other than the atoms the charge on either side should also be balanced.

Its given that Sodium is stronger reducing agent than Cu and so Na gets oxidised and Cu gets reduced.

The balanced equation will be

2Na+Cu^{2+}\rightarrow 2Na^{+}+Cu

b.) Substance oxidised is Na.

Substance reduced is Cu.

Oxidising agent is Cu2+.

Reducing agent is Na.
