According to this article, we sometimes cannot categorise an amino acid into essential or non essential. essential amino acids are the one which is supplied through diet while non essential amino acids are synthesized in the body.

But sometimes it becomes difficult to say whether an amino acid is an essential one or non essential one. For example, sulfur containing amino acids- methionine and homo cysteine can neither be produced in the body. but methionine can be converted to homo cysteine and vice versa in the body. At this stage we are unable to categorize whether they are essential or non essential. for convenience, sulfur-containing amino acids are sometimes considered a single pool of nutritionally equivalent amino acids as are the aromatic amino acid pair, phenylalanine and tyrosine.
