Emotional intelligence is key to an individual’s ability to not only understanding others, but also understanding themselves.  Briefly explain the four branches of emotional intelligence and give your opinion on which branch you believe is the most important for someone to have good emotional intelligence.

The capability to recognize emotions in ourselves and others and to regulate the effect and effectively use the knowledge to guide our behaviors and thoughts and influence others is termed as emotional intelligence (EI).

  • Self-awareness is the knowledge of our strengths and weaknesses and their impact on other people. Motivation is also an important component to achieve gratification in ourselves.

  • Self- management is the ability to manage thoughts and behaviors according to different situations. For example, people can control their emotions or sudden reactions during challenging situations.

  • Social awareness is an important component that helps the person understand other people effectively before responding to any situation. It helps people empathize well with others and understand the power of dynamics in the surroundings, people and the whole environment.

  • Relationship management aspect provides the person with adequate social skills and is the last major component which includes the ability to interact with people by giving them respect and connect with them by forming rapport.

Emotional intelligence is very important in personal and the professional live of an individual, some argue that intelligence or IQ is important as effective people with higher levels can think abstractly in situations, but EQ is equally important to increase people’s reasoning by understanding self and other people. For example, people with high EQ are better able to solve conflicts, in work environment relationship management is very important as it helps people enhance their physical and mental wellbeing, even professionally EQ is considered to be important to effectively understand others and inspire people, people can create a healthy work environment by comprehending the situations constructively. Especially with globalization high EQ levels is crucial to interact successfully with people from different cultures and to manage stressful situations in the workplace. People with high Emotional intelligence are self-confident, they can smartly deal with toxic people, and are optimistic. On the contrary, people with low emotional intelligence are less motivated, they have a hard time understanding other people and their self, they are overly sensitive and easy to offend, and have low empathy.
