Can you help to write some thought about peer response after you read this post

When I took my first psychology course, is when I first heard about emotional intelligence. My professor at the time, thought this concept was very important for anyone who is going to work with other people. It is an important concept to keep in mind because it will help you be successful in life, and an important key of relating to others and achieving your goals. The emotional intelligence keeps you aware of your actions and feelings and how they affect those around you. When someone has positive emotional intelligence, they value others, listen to their needs and wants and are able to empathize with them.

The topic that surprised me most, was the fact that companies use an emotional intelligence test to hire new staff. By using this tool when hiring new people, their qualities and their skills are set apart from everyone else. Even if we do not know it, our emotions really affect our behavior and how we treat other people. If someone scores low, they are not motivated, or self-aware of themselves when comparing to someone who scored much higher.

I work with a lot of nurses, and we recently hired a few in the past month. The nurses that has been working at Valley for years, have better social skills and self-awareness because they are more confident and comfortable in the environment and know other nurses and doctors that they work with every day. While the newer nurses have empathy, motivation and self-regulation, but struggle more with their self-awareness and social skills. This does not mean they have low emotional intelligence, but instead are facing new people, new job, and a new environment. After a few weeks you can really see them become more confident and comfortable because they learn their strength and weaknesses with their new job, and are easier to talk to because they have built that relationship with the other nurses and doctors.
