Many people think ethics and values in the professional world need to improved. If you agree, how specifically do you think they can be improved.
I do agree that ethics and values in the professional world need to be improved. This is especially true in the cases wherein the ethics do not coincide with law and people in the professional world, seek the loopholes of the gap between law and ethics, to their own vested advantages. This could be specially improved by taking ethics in supreme manner but also ensuring at the same time that ethics coincide with law as well. In the cases where it doesn’t, attempts should be made to draw law closer to ethics. However, following are the two examples, one dealing with what is ethical but not legal and second, what is legal but not ethical.
For example, a common citizen from the enemy country happens to inadvertently cross the borders of that country and reaches in our country. The forces have got the news of his entry and are fervently searching for him. He gets into our house and begs for rescuing him for he was just a fisherman whose boat sailed off the borders in a cyclonic weather. The nearest land available to him back then, was that of ours and hence he reached here. He assured me that as soon as the forces pull off their search operations, he shall go sail back to his country immediately. Here, legally, rescuing this person by not exposing him to the forces would be wrong however, ethically, since he is no terrorist but just an innocent man who accidentally sailed across our borders, it shall be only moral to save him and help him return back to his nation. (Legally wrong, ethically right).
In such cases, it makes sense to take the Fisherman into my confidence and ensure that the justice shall prevail. Later, I need to inform the necessary authorities about that person because I cannot be really sure about his actual motives. I need to be ethically empathetic with him but need to also get the law closer to deal with him rationally as well.
