Answer #1

1. Genotype iai or iaia - blood cells will have only A surface molecules

2. Genotype ibi or ibib - blood cells will have only B surface molecules

3. Genotype iaib - blood cells will have both A and B surface molecules

4.Genotype ii- blood cells will have neither A nor B surface molecules

Therefore, as a result genotype iaia or iai will produce type A i.e. A protein

ibib of ibi will produce type B i.e. B protein

iaib will produce type AB i.e. both A and B protein

ii produces O type

Human blood types A, B and O are associated with the carbohydrate antigens A, B and H respectively. A and B antigens are caused by an alteration of H antigen. Normally everyone can synthesize H antigen (a cell surface carbohydrate found on red blood cells and other cell types). Some people make A and/or B transferase(s) which converts the H antigen to an A and/or B antigen respectively. The H antigen is produced by a specific fucosyltransferase encoded by the...

Mendelian Genetics The gene involved in the disease Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) is on human chromosome 11. Allele “A” is the normal form of the gene and codes for a part of the protein complex called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is required for your blood cells to carry oxygen. Allele “a” is an abnormal form of the gene. The hemoglobin protein made from the “a” allele is defective. Red blood cells containing the defective protein are very fragile. This disease is recessive–meaning...
