Severly dehydrated patients may be given a “physiological buffer saline” (PBS) solution with a pH of 7.4 intravenously to restore their fluid balance. Do you think that PBS would contain only sodium chloride in the solution? justify your answer.

Solution :-

PBS does not contains only sodium chloride salt because sodium chloride is the neutral salt therefore the saline solution will have pH 7, but PBS saline is having pH 7.4 that means it is having basic pH therefore the PBS saline must contains some conjugate base salt of weak acid so that it can have basic pH.

So from the pH value we can confirm that along with sodium chloride some other salt would also  present in the solution.
