CytoSorb is the first specifically approved extracorporeal cytokine adsorber in the European Union, designed to reduce the “fuel to the fire” of deadly inflammation often seen in critically-ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and those undergoing complex open heart surgery. Specifically, CytoSorb is approved to reduce toxic levels of cytokines, often called a “cytokine storm”, as well as to reduce bilirubin in liver disease, and myoglobin in trauma, from the bloodstream.
