Write some pests that affect figs
The fig is a deciduous tree which is prone to many pests, predominantly fungal and viral but also some insect pests. Aspergillosis is a fungal disease which is caused by Aspergillus sp. , which causes the insides of the fig to go green and powdery. This can cause the ripe figs to rot and leaf shedding in mature fig trees.
Fig rust is another prevalent disease that plagues fig trees, caused by the fungus Cerotelium fici. It predominantly affects the fig leaves, with orange discoloration that spreads over the leaves, causing them to droop and wilt.
Fig anthracnose is another fungal disease caused by Glomerella cingulate, which also affects the leaves.
Fig mosaic is a viral disease that afflicts figs. It is caused by the fig mosaic virus (FMV), which is a single-stranded RNA virus.
The most common insect pest of figs is the fig tree borer (Phryneta spinator). The larvae of this insect feeds on the bark and then tunnel into the tree, leaving it more susceptible for other diseases and rot.
Other common insect pests include fig scale (Ceroplastes rusci) and spider mites.
