What is a people meter? Describe how it works and what data it provides. Suppose you were asked by a supervisor to prepare a blog entry describing your opinion of its validity. What would be your position and how would you defend it?
A people meter is a box the size of a paper book. The box is
connected to each TV and comes with a remote control. Each family
member in the sample family receives their own clock button. It
specifies the age and gender of each family member. If the TV is on
and the viewer is not recognized, the meter blinks to charge them.
The Add Metrics button allows guests to participate in templates,
records, age, gender and viewing status on the system.
Another device is small, the size of the audio signal located on
the wall below or near any TV in the family. It monitors everything
that comes from the TV and transmits information with a
micro-mobile device to keep people narrow-minded of what and
when.
The instrument, known as the "Frequency Meter", was developed by a
British company called Audit of great britain (AGB). AGB's parent
company, TNS, operates in 34 countries worldwide.
Initially, these metrics determined the frequency of the network -
VHF or UHF - viewed on the viewer's television. The system became
obsolete when direct-to-home (DTH) satellite food became popular
and viewers began receiving personal digital digital devices.
Additionally, the system does not measure digital broadcasts.
Before the progress of the people, Nielsen used the diary to have
the viewers directly record the programs they watched. However,
there are problems with the system. The lower rated stations
indicate that the log method is incorrect and biased. They claim
that because they have a low rating, those who rely on memory for
the logging method can only keep track of their favorite programs.
The station also says that if the diary method is not rated low, it
could also be a new channel that viewers can choose from. Viewers
may not be able to record everything they watch and there is no way
to find out the truth. Finally, in 1986, Nielsen created an
electronic meter called People Meter to solve the problem, The
People Meter, a digital television electronic measurement method
that changed from active and log-based to passive and magnetically
controlled. The meter also records simultaneous viewing, reducing
memory abnormalities.
When AGB just entered the US market with such technology, Nielsen
felt the need to compete. Nielsen made significant technological
advances before the network's crisis, with a change in the national
sample for measuring population in 1987. Although metrics have
introduced significant improvements to the previous system, changes
in visitor metrics have caused much controversy. . The method
changes the cost of the station to which the audience is
overestimated. The end of multi-network transformation is largely
due to the continuous changes in technology and distribution.
Nielsen are at a disadvantage because their measurement techniques
require charge adjustment. Fortunately for Nielsen, advances in
advertising strategies, distribution windows, and the way people
use television have made the industry interested in viewing
behavioral data.

In your initial posting, suppose you were asked to study some aspect of job performance at either your current or past job. What would be the variables you would study? How would you measure your variables ensuring reliability and validity? What challenges are there in measuring your variables in such a way as to gather meaningful data that makes sense? Include also any questions you might have about topics covered this week.

What is the point of all the data entry, all the math, all the modeling, if when the moment of truth comes we throw our hands up and say, 'hey, anything can happen?'"* Unfortunately, this is a fairly common misunderstanding about how statistics works. Write a brief explanation of why it's a misunderstanding. (Imagine that your supervisor on the WLS project said this to you when you submitted your two-page report. How would you explain to them that they were...

Suppose you receive an outside offer of employment that provides a substantial raise over your current salary. According to our textbook, the outside offer should improve your bargaining position with your current employer. However, your supervisor may also decide not to bargain and leave you to remain in your current job without a raise or to take the outside offer. So, we can view this bargaining relationship with your employer as a repeated game that takes another turn whenever you...
