It is true that insights can produce motivation for change. Adlerian therapy is where a therapist helps a client find some deep insights about themselves so that they can seek to bring changes in their lives for the good. The basic principle or belied in Adlerians is that by gaining insights about a person and making them more aware about themselves, it is possible to get rid of 'the feeling of inferiority' that people are usually affected by. There is also a strong belief that people work best when they are working for a social interest and that is for the benefit of the whole society rather than just working for their own personal gains.

When the motivation for changes is intrinsic rather than extrinsic then it leads to a more sustainable form of change management as the person is not much affected by the changes in the external factors. The feeling of change is then naturally satisfying and the person does not need to work that hard to bring about that change. Then the motivations for bringing that change is as a result of the insights that are gained from the therapy rather than coming from any sort of rewards or punishment from the external sources. There are also several research work that is widely available on the internet which even suggests that even after so much time of the development of Adlerian therapy, it has still stood the test of time. Hence, the individual therapy does in turn emphasise a person's ability to bring about a positive change in his or her life.
