After watching the Documentary Genie: Secrets of the Wild Child, which can be found in the Table of contents under Videos, create a discussion post on what you found interesting in the documentary and whether or not Genie's treatment was right or ethical. Your post should be at least 200 words.

Traumatic may be a better word than interesting in the case of Genie. The documentary have put light on an important and underreported area of psychosocial problems and that is child abuse by parents. It has shown that how children are not always safe with their own parents and how corporal punishment and other brutal techniques can scare a child for life.

The interesting areas are many but among them two areas have particularly drawn my attention. The first area is the way in which Genie had developed her issues. The documentary have shown that how isolating a child from social exposures can hamper her brain growth and how it is important to make the children receive various sensations in order to develop their senses. The next area of concern or interest is the nature of treatment or basically the first bits of treatment after the case of Genie got exposed. According to my point the view, the primary bits of treatment was not ethical as it was more concerned with the growth of fame and name of the teacher than the recovery or improvement of Genie. Thus, that form of treatment looked a bit self centred in context to the teacher rather than driven to Genie's betterment.
