Each year the National Association for the Education of Young Children celebrate the Year of the Young Child. I'm encouraging you all to participate by creating an activity for classrooms or at home that will follow the theme for the day
select a daily theme and write an activity that families can do with their young child that fits that theme. When you send this you need to include the activity name, the intended age for the activity must be somewhere between birth and 8 years of age, resources needed and instructions.

write one paragraph informing parents about how the activity you wrote assists children with their development.

Daily theme name: Nature day.

Activity name: Planting a seed.

Child Age for the activity: 6-8 years of age.

Resources needed: a pot, some seeds, loose soil, a small spade, water jug.

Instructions:

Child and parent can do this at home. The parent can guide while the child carries on with the planting activity. The pot needs to be cleaned inside out, make the child fill in some loose soil in the pot to the brim, next ask the child to choose a seed which he or she wishes to see grow, for example a fruit seed, a vegetable seed or even a flowering plant seed. Once the kid picks up the seed, with the help of a little spade or even by using own hands dig up a small hole and plant the seed in it. Once the seed has been placed properly in the soil, cover up the top with soil and close it off. Next, do not pour the water but sprinkle some, overuse of water will not help the seed grow but will rot it. Gently sprinkle some water and let it germinate. Inform the child that it’ll take a few days until we see any green shoots sprouting up and only after which the plant will begin its growth slow and steady.

How the activity helps with the child’s development.

Doing this activity will bring the child closer to nature. The child will learn how magically the seed grows into a plant and will learn to appreciate all of nature around him or her. This appreciation in the child will lead to moral development. Also, the child will learn patience as they have to wait patiently for the seed to sprout up. The kid will also learn the art of caring by tending to the plant everyday by watering it and looking after it. This activity will be highly therapeutic hence helping emotional development as well.
