Answer #1

The reason is that the chemical involved in the potato chips is acrylamide, which is a polar compound and the added solvent to dissolve it was hexane, which is non-polar.

Due to the unfavorable polar-nonpolar interaction, the sample was first melted in the margarine analysis.

I need help calculating theoretical yield for my Diels-Alder lab experiment. This reaction was between 1,3-butadiene and maleic anhydride, forming cis 1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride. In this experiment 1.0g of maleic anhydride was combined with 1.8g 3-sulfolene and 2 mL dry xylene and refluxed for 30 mins. 6 mL of xylene was added to dissolve solids and then decanted, then warm pet. ether was added to form crystalline product after cooling. some of this info may be irrelevant in what is needed...

please answer the prelab excercise:) I tried doing it but I did not get very far Experiment 7: Grignard Reaction. Introduction Discovered by French chemist Victor Grignard, the reaction that now bears his name is an example of the preparation of an organometallic reagent. In this lab, phenylmagnesium bromide is the Grignard of interest, and it will be added to an aldehyde to produce an alcohol. Lab Objectives 1. To study organometallic reagents in general. benzophenone. 2. To prepare phenylmagnesium...
