Answer #1

ANS:

1. D) Each of the aromatic amino acids is fully conserved across all proteins at a minimum of 1 position per amino acid.

The aromatic amino acid residues of proteins have fluorescence in the range of 300–400 nm when excited at 250–300 nm. Therefore by using the highlight tool for aromatic amino acids, each of the aromatic amino acids is fully conserved across all proteins at a minimum of 1 position per amino acid.

2. D) Mu

According to the sequence comparison tree, Mu is the subunit that was the first to diverge from the primordial globin. Mu hemoglobin is a predicted protein that is encoded in the HBM gene and the mRNA is expressed at moderate levels.

3. B) Theta

The alpha subunit of hemoglobin is most closely related to the Theta subunit. In humans, Hemoglobin subunit theta-1 is a protein that is encoded by the HBQ1 gene. Theta-globin mRNA is not found in adult erythroid or other nonerythroid tissue but inhuman fetal erythroid tissue.
