An Alaska Airline commercial aircraft is flying from Omaha to Seattle, a distance of 1600 miles. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-900, flying with the mass of 160,000 lb, very close to its maximum take-off mass which is 164,000 lb. From the moment the aircraft levels to its set altitude of 45,000 ft, it flies at the steady state cruise speed of 550 mph (state 1). During a 3 hour flight, the aircraft has burned 15,000 lb of fuel and lands on misty SEA-TAC airport (at sea level) with the landing speed of 160 mph (state 2).
