Question

A 18.6-kg box rests on a frictionless ramp with a 13.8° slope. The mover pulls on a rope attached to the box to pull it up the incline. If the rope makes an angle of 38.4° with the horizontal, what is the smallest force F the mover will have to exert to move the box up the ramp? rM eBook

Answer #1

m = 18.6 kg, g = 9.8 m/s2

m g sin 13.8 = F * cos (38.4 - 13.8)

F = (m g sin 13.8) / (cos (38.4 - 13.8))

= (18.6 * 9.8 * sin 13.8) / (cos (38.4 - 13.8))

smallest force = 47.8 N
