  • Emotional intelligence: It is basically the way in which one handles his emotions, while being aware of the emotions of others. There are basically 5 components of emotional intelligence: Self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills.
  • Cognitive ability: . It is expected that the negotiator must have high cognitive ability. It makes the negotiator capable of making good judgement and analyzing the situation in depth before taking sensible decisions. This increases the overall effectiveness of decisions.
  • Self-monitoring: This is the trait of introspection. The negotiator must keep introspecting his own actions and behaviors and the opinions that he holds for individuals and situations. This can help him emerge as a better professional
  • Honesty: Honesty is another critical trait of a good negotiator. The negotiator must be able to give honest opinion, no matter who is at the discussion table. This enhances the overall effectiveness of the negotiation process
