Pituitary gland

*Small pea sized gland

*Plays major role in vital body function and general wellbeing

*Master gland of body

*Why we are calling pituitary gland as master gland beacuase it control the activity of most other hormone secreting glabds.

*The pituitary gland secreate or store many hormone

1.Anteri pituitary hormones

Prolactin -This hormone stimulate brest milk production after childbirth

Growth hormone-stimulate growth in childhood andand pl a major role in maintaining healthy muscle and bone in adults,Also helps in fat metabolism in body.

Adrenocorticotropin(ACTH)-stimulate the production of cortisol by the adrenal gland Cortisol is a stress hormone very essential for our survival

Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)-stumulate the thyroid gland to produce Thyroid hormone,The hormone regulate body's metabolism,energy balance,growth and nervine system activity.

Luteinising hormone(LH) stimulate testosterone production in male and ovulation in female

Follicle stimulating hormone(FSH)-hormone promotes sperm prodction in men and stimulates the overies to produce estrogen and develop egg in women.

2.posterior pituitary hormones(Stored hormone)

Anti diuretic hormone(ADH)- also called vasopressin.it regulates water balance in the body and sodium level in blood.It conserv the body water by reducing the amount of water lost through urine.

Oxytocin-Hormone cause milk to flow from the breast also helping in labour to progress.Essential hormone to maintain the bond between mother & child.

The pituitary gland has mainly 2 lobes

*Anterior and posterior lobe

*An intermediate lobe also present

*Pituitary gland situated behind your nose in bony cavity called sella turcica

The hormone produced in posterior lobe are produced from hypothalamus and Stored in Posterior love(Oxytocin & Vasopressin)
