Answer #1

The plant taxa of rock outcrops include primarily species capable of withstanding environmental extremes. Rock outcrops are characterized by high solar irradiance and highly fluctuating temperatures. The combination of high insulation, heat absorption of the rock surface and limited evaporative cooling can produce rock surface temperatures of 50-55oC. Water availability is also less because of rapid runoff from the rock surface and low water holding capacity of shallow sandy soils in the shed of depressions.Rapid transpiration during high temperatures intensifies moisture stress producing a microenvironmental desert.

Trees cannot establish in the shallow outcrop soils and thus light meter reading is high contributing to high temperatures in air and winds. The shallow soils can be very dry seasonally but are saturated following precipitation due to impermeability of the underlying rock which causes moisture to pool in the depressions.

In rock outcrops, soil is initially very shallow, nutrient poor and have low water holding capacity.hence warmest and driest environment containing lowest organic matter resulting in higher soil temperature.Indeed rock outcrop is described as desert like.

On a windy day, we can define the wind-chill temperature Twc as the air temperature that would give the same rate of heat loss if experienced on a calm day. Consider a day when the air temperature is 2°C and the wind speed is 12 m/s, giving a convective heat transfer coefficient of 45 W/m2⋅K (compared with 10 W/m2⋅K on a calm day). Assume a person has a 3 mm layer of skin (k = 0.37 W/m⋅K), a body surface...

Background: Ancient lycophytes were the dominant plants on Earth during the Carboniferous Period, which is named for the coal that formed from those ancient plants that lived 300 million years ago. As humans use fossil fuels such as coal and gas, we release carbon in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. Because CO2 traps heat near the surface of the earth, it is known as a greenhouse gas and contributes to climate change. However, carbon is also...
