Peptide hormones are synthesized on ribosomes located on the RER. The nascent peptide enters the ER lumen for modifications and subsequently enters the cis-face of the Golgi complex. It further undergoes post-translational modifications in the Golgi and gets released as small vesicles that fuse with the plasma membrane and get secreted into the extracellular space. This pathway is known as the secretory-vesicular pathway.
