An operational definition of a variable defines it in terms of explaining the operation or processes that will be used to measure the variable.

Binge drinking among college atudentscan be defined operationally by making how it will be measured.

Poor operational definition - The students who consume 5 or more drink in last 2 weeks will be called binge drinker.

Here, it is not clarified how much duration of drinking so it missed one aspect so it is a bad operational definition.

Good operational definition of binge drinking will be , all students who took 5 or more drink within two hours duration in a week will be termed a binge drinker.
