The above shown reaction works according to the LeChatellier's principle. As the pH of the solution is increased, the [H+] ion concentration decreases in the solution (OH- increases instead). So more of Cr2O7^2- (orange solution) gets converted into CrO4^2- (yellow solution). the reaction works in reverse fashion and reactants (left handside) are favoured.
