Answer #1

A element is said to be reduced if it gains electron

A eleent i said to be oxidized if it loses electron

Oxidation sate of a element in free state is 0

1. In this reaction, Ni and S8 has a oxidation state of 0

oxidation state of Ni changes from 0 to +2

and oxidation state of S8 changes from 0 to -2

Thus, Ni is oxidized and S8 is reduced.

2. In this reaction, oxidation state of Cr changes from 0 to +2

and that of I2 changes from 0 to -1

Thus, Cr is oxidized and I2 is reduced.

3. Oxidation state of Zn changes from 0 to+2

and that of O2 changes from 0 to -2

Thus, Zn is oxidized and O2 is reduced.
