(a) How many byte offset bits are required in the address to reference 1024 words of data when the word size is 128 bits? (b)

a. Answer: 17 bits

Word size: 128 bits Number of words: 1024

So the number of the byte offset bits required = 1024 * 128  

= 210 * 27

= 217

The number of bits required to represent 217 is 17. So the answer is 17 bits.

b. Answer: 8 PB

Word size = 32 bits Address space = 248

The capacity of memory = 248 * 32

= 248 * 25

= 253

= 8 * 250

= 8 PB since 250 = 1 PB
