Employees or managers have full right regarding the employee monitoring. They can monitor their employees as and when they want.
Employee monitoring shiuld be taken in a positive way unless it invades the privacy of someone. Installing Video cameras, computer monitoring softwares and web surveillance should be done. In a way these will protect and secure the employee as video cameras will be a proof in case of any mishaps.
Computer monitoring software of employees should be done in order to ensure how much employees are serious about their jobs and ensure there is no fraud taken under place. But a clear instruction should be given to employees as to do's and dont's on employer computer so that they even know their limits.
Employers can track where their employees are using GPS installed in their laptops of company but thus should be used by employer only when necessary.
Employer should disclose the monitoring policy of the company to the emoloyees beforehand so that it dies not create any mess between employer and employees. Transparency about monitoring and a clear, direct company policy can go a long way toward avoiding uncomfortable or negative situations from arising. Obtaining employee consent before joining can also proove beneficial.
If i was the employee, i would expect a clear policy of monitoring as to when where and what extent i am being monitored. What has to be done and what not has to be done on the company property. I would expect my privacy in restroom and lockers room. I should be monitored only when necessary with a valid reason.
