Answer #1

The chemical reaction taking place is:

2 Fe2O3 + 3 C —> 4 Fe + 3 CO2

a)

actual yield mass = 14.6 g

molar mass of Fe = 55.85 g/mol

actual yield mol = mass/molar mass

= 0.261 mol

Answer: 0.261 mol

b)

from reaction above:

2 mol of Fe2O3 gives 4 moles of Fe

moles of Fe theoretically = 2*moles of Fe2O3

= 2*0.389 mol

= 0.778 mol

Answer: 0.778 mol

c)

% yield = actual * 100 / theoretical

= 0.261*100/0.778

= 33.5 %

Answer: 33.5 %
