In laboratory, we have been working with FASTA and FASTQ file formats. What is the major difference between these two file formats?

A. There are no differences between the two file formats

B. FASTA contains quality scores while FASTQ only contains the sequence

C. FASTQ contains quality scores while FASTA only contains the sequence

D. FASTA is only for amino acid sequence, where FASTQ is only for DNA sequence

Answer #1

Fasta is a software for DNA/protein sequence alignment used in bioinformatics. it only deals with the sequnces.

FastQ are the text files which contain sequence data (usually nucleotide) along with the quality scores.

hence optin c looks appropriate.

Please develop a Java program to read in a piece of DNA sequence from a FASTA format sequence file (alternatively you can use the getRandomSeq(long) method of the RandomSeq class to generate a piece of DNA sequence), and then print out all the codons in three forward reading frames. Design a method called codon() that can be used to find all the codons from three reading frames. The method will take in an argument, the reading frame (1, 2, or...

We considered the differences between the reading and writing scores of a random sample of 200 students who took the High School and Beyond Survey in Exercise 5.21. The mean and standard deviation of the differences are x̄read-write = -0.545 and 8.887 points respectively. Genes are unique segements of A, T, C, and G sequences in our DNA. Each piece of our DNA contains many genes. The 46 human chromosomes contain around 20,000 genes. Gene 2 DNA molecule Linus Pauling's research was centered on the the function of one particular gene, the HBB gene. His data indicated that the cell uses the information in the HBB gene as a "recipe" to construct hemoglobin. The hemoglobin recipe in normal individuals was accurate so their cells...

“Unlike what happens in DNA replication, where both strands are copied, only one of the two strands is transcribed into mRNA. The DNA strand that contains the gene is sometimes called the sense strand, or coding strand, and the DNA strand that gets transcribed to give RNA is called the antisense strand, or noncoding strand. Because the sense strand and the antisense strand are complementary, and because the DNA antisense strand and the newly formed RNA strand are also complementary,...

For this assignment, we will consider a protein expressed in the liver of an African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Biochemists determined that this protein is involved in the production of glycogen. In a stunning announcement, a snowboarder in Antarctica claims to have found a new species of cheetah that is able to survive freezing temperatures and a long, dark winter. The snowboarder described a slow, fat, white-furred cheetah that may be related to the African cheetah. Scientists isolated a fragment of...
