My friend is not answering their phone. Either my friend is busy or there is something wrong. When my friend is busy and is not able to talk for a period of time, they always text me to say that they will call me later. I didn't get a text from my friend so they must be busy. Which of the following is the best statement of the flaw in the argument above?

My friend must be busy if they didn't answer their phone or send a text.

Something is wrong because my friend always texts when they are busy.

We have to note the following points:

  • There are two possible cases - something must be wrong or my friend could be busy.
  • There can also be two possible conditions - I receive a text from my friend and I don't receive a text from him.
  • If he is busy - he always sends a text.
  • However if I get no text - there must be something wrong.

Keeping the above points in mind we see that - the flaw in the argument above is - my friend must be busy if the didn't send a text.
