Monogenetic and digenetic flukes are trematodes, which are platyhelminths. They differ by the occurence of alternation of generation, i.e. the monogenetic fluke has only a single stage of development (sexual) whereas the digenetic fluke has two stages (sexual and asexual), the larval development inside a mollusk and the adult stage in another host. Monogenetic flukes are parasites of fish and amphibians, and digenetic flukes are parasites of cats.
