Evolution is change of inherited character of a specific population. Parental organism can pass a bunch of traits to the offsprings which can be obvious traits(normal traits) or can be anonymous also called mutated traits. These anonymous traits are very important in the path of evolution.Evolution is just a gradual change over time going some where that we don't know. Natural selection is the selection based process which can identify some changes and give them some advantage over other members so the changes can established themselves.
If we want to understand why evolution is important we have to look outside how beautiful the nature is and diverse it is. Every living organism on earth depends on the environment which is continuously changing. Without evolution a species can never survive and adjust with the changing environment and will extinct easily. The second possibility if we imagine about a static environment with a handful of species and very few niches and short food chain. These few species with zero ability to adopt can extinct very easily in response of a climatic disaster or some unexpected natural incident.
We diverged from a group of apes 5-8 million years ago. Very specific selection pressure and genetic mutations made us what we are today. It is a gradual change over time. Journey from early primates to autralopithecus and H.habilies to H.sapiens major anatomical changes are bipedalism, development of much larger brain, reduced sexual dimorphism, ulnar opposition and parabolic dental arcade. Humans will change further in far future where a major force will be a artificial selection depends on the technological dependency, modern food habit and culture.
