The following groups of mice are exposed to a pathogenic bacterium. Luckily for these mice, this pathogen can be removed by activation of the classical complement cascade. Match the mouse strain with its appropriate treatment against this bacterium. Note: each answer choice may be used more than once, but not all answer choices will be used.

1) IL-12 or IFN-γ

2) Anti-IFN-γ antibody

3) IL-4

4) Anti-IL-4 antibody

5) Lymphocytes from a previously infected mouse

6) No additional treatment necessary

_______SCID mice

______p40 (-/-) mice

_______MyD88 (-/-) mice

_______Wild-type mice

_______BALB/c mice

_______Nude mice

If you could provide an explanation where possible that would be great. Thanks!

Answer #1

SCID mice - IL-12, IL-4, lymphocytes from a previously infected mouse. The fusion of these antibody proteins are effective in SCID mice.

p40 (-/-) mice - IL-12, lymphocytes from a previously infected mouse. But this only includes CD4 T lymphocytes.

MyD88 (-/-) mice - IL-12,IL-4, lymphocytes from a previously infected mouse. Here IL-12 induction is carried out by lactic acid bacteria. This only includes CD4+ T lymphocytes.

Wild type mice - IL-12, IL-4, lymphocytes from a previously infected mouse. Here only CD4+ T lymphocytes are involved.

BALB/c mice - IL-12, IL-4, lymphocytes from a previously infected mice. Here CD4+, CD25+ lymphocytes are involved.

Nude mice - IL-12,IL-4. This mice is thought to be completely devoid of T lymphocytes.
