You have just been hired as a consultant to the chief executive officer (CEO) of a health care organization. Your duty is to improve the management tools and practices needed to work in teams, build cross-functional teams, and facilitate collaborative decision- making.
You need to identify elements found in an effective health care work group and identify barriers to communication that may cause conflict within a group. Suggest some types of communication techniques that can be used to avoid conflicts within a team.
You need to address ways to improve communication among departments in an organization to avoid conflict. Finally, identify strategies that may be used to avoid recurring conflicts and ways a leader can prevent conflict within the team in the organization.

prepare a 1,250–1,500-word paper in which you propose a quality improvement plan to present to the CEO addressing these issues.

Team building and working together as a team is one of the hardest thing and continue to pose as the biggest barrier. However, with the right strategies it can be taken care of and is very important for better communication and collaborative team work. There are many management tools and practices which when implemented can help establish better management, enhance the process of decision making and also build the cross functional teams.

Management tools which helps in Better Building of Organisation

Planning and Execution

It is one of the most important things that is required for better planning and management. The planning of a project or management involves a number of things like naming the problem, identifying the team who is impacted by the problem and finding a solution to it. When it comes to the management, planning is very important and also execution of the plan through right solution is equally necessary.

Know your skills and imply

There are different skill set a person is more comfortable with and is more inclined towards. As a consultant, it is necessary to know what skill set the team members are good at and accordingly help them to implement the same at their work. When the members of a team or cross functional team work 100% towards achieving the goals with help of the skill set they are good at, the performance and productivity also increases.

Give importance to priority

It is important to understand what work needs to be taken care at priority basis and what work can be solved gradually over time. In order to do so, it is important the teams work together, understand the work that needs to be taken care of immediately and have it done. This can be done by conducting survey or finding out statistical information about the issues.

Importance of Building Cross Function Team and How to be done

A strong cross functional team is known to deliver better results through organized productivity and superior performance. With a clear idea about specific goals, strategized management tools and well organized system, the projects can be success. The cross functional team is one where the members of the team has different skill set but ultimately they work together for achieving the same goal. It is actually people from different departments working together for the same project or for achieving the same goals. Here are some things that can help better performance of cross functional team

  • Unity in the Team – The team building is one of the most important factors and it is necessary that there is co-operation and unity amongst the team members. The team needs to be self directed along with having the right skills and expertise.
  • Leadership – Although the team works together but a leader is needed to motivate and help the team grows and do better. The team leader must be unbiased and must be able to take responsibility of the project. He or she must be able to keep the team together despite differences.
  • Goal Oriented – The productivity and performance as a team would only improve when the teams work independently with a clear goal in mind. The objectives of the team must be clear along with the set of goals and this will help them complete the work within time.
  • Constant evaluation – The cross functional teams are good at a lot of skills and hence it is important that there is continuous re-evaluation of their work. This will help one to measure progress and also improve the skills set.

How to improve the communication between teams?

It is very important to have a healthy communication amongst the teams and members of the team that leads to better performance and productivity. One of the biggest barriers to communication is ego issues that lead to rise in the conflicts amongst the team members. With wrong way of communication, it increases the conflicts and hence reduces the ability of the team to work together. Here are some strategies that can be implied to reduce communication barrier

Address the issue and find solution

Conflicts are not a new thing when so many individuals with different mindset and approach are working together. The aim is to come to a middle ground and if there are problems, it needs to be addressed right away. When a conflict arises, the action must be taken immediately by a healthy discussion and there must be a solution to resolve it quickly. Everyone must be heard and hence the solution must be found that is accepted by everyone.

Listen and talk

A lot of people don’t listen properly but only aim at criticizing or finding problem at something. As a team member, while addressing the issue, it is important to listen to things or problems or solution first and then communicate. Listening to someone before reacting is a very good communication rule. As a manager or team leader, it is necessary to listen to the team members and based on the understanding find a solution.

Clear expectations

One of the reasons of conflicts in team is when the expectations are not set clearly and things turn differently mid way. It is necessary to not keep the team members in confuse and before the start of a project or before working on achieving a particular goal, the expectations must be set up. Be it the deadlines for a work or managing expectations, this helps in engaging the employees better and ensure better communication.

Respect differences

Every person is different from one another and hence it is important to respect personal difference and not be authoritative about belief. The aim should to work and encourage one’s skill set and despite the difference work together.
