The task this week is for you to take the Developmental Tasks that impact adolescents as they become adults and rank them from 1-5; where 1 is the most important through 5 which is the least important. They are: physical changes, formal operational thought, romantic relationships, peer groups, and emotional issues. Create 2 ranking systems; the first from the perspective of a 12-year-old and then a second as an 18-year-old. Once you have decided, present them and then state the rationale for what differences, if any, there are between your two lists. (Please note there is no “correct” order and some my overlap, if so account for how that might occur…)

From the perspective of a 12-year-old child

1. Physical changes- The first impact would be the physical changes. In the case of girls, there are physical changes in their body. While in boys, their voice changes and they start having a beard and pubic hair.

2. Formal operational thought- The way they think starts changing.

3. Peer groups- The influence of peer groups in everything they do changes.

4. Emotional issues- They become emotional quickly, feelings of self obsessiveness etc might appear.

5. Romantic relationships- Start getting attracted to the opposite sex. However, the impact of this aspect is less at this stage but it will grow gradually.

From the perspective of an 18-year-old child

1.Emotional issues- The impact of emotional issues at this age is the maximum. There are thousands of emotions that overflow in the mind of an 18-year old child.

2. Peer groups- The influence of peer groups is also very high. Children of this age tend to get easily influenced by their friends.

3. Romantic relationships- Start getting attracted to the opposite sex. Children also feel infatuated at this age.  

4. Formal operational thought- The way they think starts changing.

5. Physical changes- The impact of physical changes in the least here as the such changes already happen when they were younger.
