There has been an increase in mortality and morbidity in recent years due to the spread of emerging and re-emerging diseases. There has been an increase in the incidence of malaria lately because of the development of drug resistant falciparum and the vector female anopheles mosquito becoming resistant to insecticides. Malaria also has spread to new geographical locations because if changing climatic and environmental conditions.

Integrated vector management and adequate treatment of infected individuals is the only way forward. Newer drugs like artesunate and artemesin are effective in treating falciparum malaria. Larval control measures like abate, adult vector control measures like fogging, environmental and engineering measures to prevent water stagnation, use of mosquito nets and repellants will bring the incidence of malaria under control.
