For each of the following solutions, identify the solute as an electrolyte or non-electrolyte. For electrolyte solutions, identify the concentration of cations and anions in the solution. For each solution, identify the total concentration of dissolved particles.

Solution Electrolyte / non-Electrolyte Cation Anion Total Dissolved Particles
0.1 M KCl
0.2 M CH3OH

0.3 M Ca(NO3)2

0.3 M Na3PO4
0.2 M NaOH

It's for presentation, so explain why pls.

Answer #1

KCl

It is an ionic compound. It dissociates into cation K+ and Cl-. It is an Electrolyte.

Total dissolved particle is 2.

KCl ----> K+ + Cl-

Total concentration of dissoloved Conc = [K+] + [Cl-]

= 0.1 + 0.1

=0.2

CH3OH

It is an covalent compound. It does not dissociate into ions in aqueous solution. So it non electrolyte.

Total Con of dissolved particle = [CH3OH]

= 0.2 M

Ca(NO3)2

It is an ionic compound. It dissociates into cation Ca+2 and NO-3. It is an Electrolyte.

Ca(NO3)2 ----> Ca+2 +  2NO-3

total dissolved particles= 3

Total Conc of dissolved particles = [ Ca+2 ]+  2[NO-3]

= 0.3 + 0.6

= 0.9M

Na3PO4

0.3 M Na3PO4

It is an ionic compound. It dissociates into cation Na+ and PO4-3. It is an Electrolyte.

Na3PO4 ------> 3 Na+ + PO4-3

total dissolved particles= 4

Total Conc of dissolved particles = 3[ Na+ ]+  [PO4-3]

=3(0.3) + 0.3

=1.2

NaOH

It is an ionic compound. It dissociates into cation Na+ and OH-. It is an Electrolyte.

Solve Similarly.
