Which of the following statements BEST describes the importance of meiosis in human evolution?

Crossing over creates novel genetic sequences that can be passed to the next generation.

Meiosis produces cells that contain varied and heritable DNA so that humans have variation (that ultimately allows us to adapt to changing environments).

Mutation shuffles variation during meiosis ensuring that the new daughter cells are not identical to the parent cells.

All of the above.

Answer #1

Crossing over creates novel genetic sequences that can be passed to the next generation.

Crossing over is a process that happens between homologous chromosomes in order to increase genetic diversity. During crossing over, part of one chromosome is exchanged with another. This allows for genetic diversity, which will help cells participate in the survival of the fittest and evolution.

The following statements apply to concepts and material discussed in Chapter 15; identify which statement is TRUE. Answers: A common ancestor of two species on evolutionary trees can be found at the point where the two branches meet. Humans evolved from Neanderthals about 50,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA is not particularly useful when trying to determine the movement pattern of humans historically across the globe. Scientists can estimate when species diverged from a common ancestor by comparing their Karyotypes. We...

need help with this .. From the pages 571-587 attached below. 1a) Suppose a population of guppies was infected with a parasite. In that population a mutation results in a parasite resistant genotype that spreads through the population through natural selection. A subsequent mutation in the parasite results in a genotype that is unaffected by the newly evolved resistant guppy genotype. What is the name of the hypothesis that explains this host parasite “arms race”.? 1b) What is this name...
