A generation 0 strain of E. coli had a transition temperature of 74.8 C . it was determined that by generation 43, the same strain of E coli DNA now had a transition temperature of 77.3 C. What can be said about the changes to the nucelobase composition over the 43 generations?

Usually the organism living at higher temperature have higher GC CONTENT in their DNA when compared to the one living as mesophilic condition.high level of GC content stabilise the DNA more .

This infers that the DNA composition would have changed in such a manner that the net GC content is some how decreased due to mutation of any type.

The basic reason is that GC have 3 bonds while AT have 2 bonds.

i.e the GC content of DNA in 0 generation is more than that of 43 generation
