What is the armature of an electrical machine? How does the armature of a DC machine differ from the armature of a synchronous machine?

In electrical machine armature is a conductor which carries current. The windings are done on the armature core which if cuts the magnetic flux develops the electromotive force. The electromotive force can be only developed if there is relative motion between the flux and the conductor. The armature can be present either on rotor or stator.

In DC machine, the armature is present on rotor and it cuts the magnetic flux coming out from stator to produce the emf. In synchronous machine the armature is present on the stator.
