  • Ventral body cavities such as thoracic and abdominopelvic cavity are lined with serous memranes. These membrane secretes serous fluid to lubricate the organs and reduce friction.

  • Dorsal body cavities (cranial and vertebral cavity) do not contain any serous membrane. Organs in both cranial and vertebral cavities are protected by bones (skull and vertebral column).

  • Hence, dorsal body cavity does not have any serous fluid at all.
