Homeostasis refers to a process that human body uses to actively maintain stable conditions required for optimal body functioning and survival. this may occur at level of entire body (controling body temparature or pH of blood, blood glucose levels) or in an organ (maintainance of pH in stomach).

It is important to maintain fliud volume inside to keep the the concentrations of electrolytes in the various body fluids are kept within healthy ranges. Total water content is around 42% of total body weight. Loss of water in excess is called dehydration. The symtoms of dehydration are irritability, confusion, Low blood pressure, Rapid heartbeat, Fever, delirium or unconsciousness are synptoms of dehydration. Overhydration is having excessive volumes of water in the body, and it is also known as water intoxication. Nausea, vomiting, Fatigue and Seizures are symptoms of overhydration.
