how do you know how many to use in a sample size I have almost 4...

how do you know how many to use in a sample size I have almost 4 years worth of monthly visit data and not sure how many to use to forecast average change, confidence interval, average percent change, moving average, exponential smoothing?

It depends on your margin of error, MoE. That is, how much error, at most, would you accept.

Let us say you will accept at most 20 visitors from your mean estimate which means your mean estimate will be at most more or less by 20 visitors. So, MoE =20

Let the Standard deviation, =100 visitors.

Let the conference level =95%. So, Z =1.96

Now, the required sample size, n is calculated as follows:

MoE =Z. =(1.96*100/20)2 =97 (rounded to next integer).
