Answer #1

1. There will be three copies of chromosome 21. This is because the two copies of chromosome 21 fails to separate and both instead of one is incorporated in the sperm resulting in cell that has 24 chromosome instead of 23.

2. Each cell in the embryo developing from zygote having three copies of chromosome 21, will have trisomy (three copies) for chromosome 21. As a result such embryo will develop down syndrome.

Identical twins are derived from a single egg and fertilized by a single sperm, creating a zygote that later divides in two. Because identical twins originate from a single zygote, they are genetically identical. Examine the following case study: Caroline Loat and her colleagues examined nine measures of social, behavioral, and cognitive ability in 1000 pairs of identical male twins and 1000 pairs of identical female twins. They found that for three of the measures (prosocial behavior, peer problems, and...

Observation: Sex Chromosome Anomalies A female with Turner syndrome (XO) has only one sex chromosome, an X chromosome; the O signifies the absence of the second sex chromosome. Because the ovaries never become functional, these females do not undergo puberty or menstruation, and their breasts do not develop. Generally, females with Turner syndrome have a short build, folds of skin on the back of the neck, difficulty recognizing various spatial patterns, and normal intelligence. With hormone supplements, they can lead...
