why are classification tree of a good method for statistically analyzing whether judges correctly apply the rules of law to case facts?

Classification tree methods (i.e., decision tree methods) are recommended when the data mining task contains classifications or predictions of outcomes, and the goal is to generate rules that can be easily explained and translated.

  1. Identification of test relevant aspects (so called classifications) and their corresponding values (called classes) as well as
  2. Combination of different classes from all classifications into test cases.These are the important steps in the method.

In this case, the variables which influence the judgement will be mostly binary or numerical variables for which the binary classification makes more sense. The classificatios for a group of properties and analysis, graphical representations will all be simpler if we use classification trees. Thus recommendable.
