A global organisation works at different geographical locations spread across the globe. Though the basic organisational culture is driven by the values of the founding nation, the different cultural environments mean a diverse work culture where the employees have different beliefs, ethical values, mindset, family values, social attributes etc. They differ significantly in their group behaviour, way of communication, their attitude towards life, their society and an individual's relation with it, adversity quotient and masculine / feminine approach among others. this culturally diverse workforce is an asset to have as it brings with it different viewpoints and leads to a rational decision making through evaluation on different benchmarks. However, it is a very delicate matter when it cmes to manage this culturally diverse bunch of people, whcih is a great challenge to the manager.
The first and biggest challenge before the manager is to develop cultural tolerance, sensitivity and respect for diversity among its people. This is very important as a single incident of intolerance or extreme view of a culture might offend many, and create a rift between the employee factions forever. other challenge is to develop a work culture of mutual trust, belief and respect, which is the second step after cultural biases and differences are removed. Once this is accomplished, the last challenge is to develop a system that is uniform and standardised in cultural sensitivity irrespective of the place and ia uniform across all company locations.
