Type of hemolysis in streptococcus؟ and the basis of griffith typing of streptococcus?
Hemolysis is the breakdown of red blood cells(RBC)
these are 3 types
Alpha hemolysis is a partial hemolysis associated with red cell hemoglobin, Alpha hemolysis caused by hydrogen peroxide produced by the bacterium.
Beta hemolysis is complete lysis of red cells. Beta hemolysis caused by 2 hemolysins 'O' and 'S'
Gamma hemolysis. this is non hemolytic. the streptococci in this group are usually non pathogenic
Griffith basis of typing of streptococcus
Cell wall components and antigenic structure
The cell wall of s.pyogenes has 3 major proteins useful for serotyping (Grifffith Typing)
These proteins are M, T and R
M proteins important protein heat stable, trypsin sensitive and cheif virulence factor
T proteins trypsin resistant and heat labile
R proteins trypsin resistant
