Intervention Mapping will be a more comprehensive method for developing an intervention to increase the physical activity among older adults in the retirement house.

• Step 1: Perform Needs Assessment: Meet the primary stakeholders of the retirement house – the management, the in-house physician, older adults, etc. and understand their requirement. They need to elaborate upon the type of activities which they want the older adults to indulge in. This would help in developing the program objectives.
• Step 2: Develop Program Objectives: Based on the needs identified, the program objectives can be defined. The program objectives can be segregated into short-term and long-term objectives. The short term objective can be to initiate new activities which would encourage participation of the senior adults. The long term objective can be to have 80% participation of senior adults in such physical activities and enhance their way of living.
• Step 3: Select intervention methods and strategies: A benchmark study can be conducted to select the intervention method for the same. Proposals from training companies can be invited. Based on how the proposals meet the expectations, the vendor company can be selected.
• Step 4: Develop program components and materials: Various exercises as well as physical activities like yoga, meditation, laughing clubs can be incorporated in the program.
• Step 5: Implement the Program: When the program schedule gets finalized, the same can be triggered for execution.
• Step 6: Evaluate the Program: The feedback of the senior adults can be taken to evaluate the program. The physicians can also share the improvement in the health situation of the adults so as to validate the effectiveness of the program
