As you now know, Baddeley’s model of working memory has four key components. Briefly describe each component.
The british psychologist Alan beddeley is known particularly for his work on short term memory.beddeley's model of working memory is a model of human memory proposed by Alan beddeley and Graham Hitch in 1974 .which present a more accurate model of primary memory.beddeley's model argues that working memory is like a multi part system, and each system is responsible for different function.each part is only able to processes so much and the components of this system ,according to Beddeley ,function more or less independently of one another, model has a four major components .
1- PHONOLOGICAL LOOP - the first part is phonological loop .this is the part of the system that processes spoken language ,or information we get from speech.this is also how we process things like arithmetic problems ,new vocabulary words, its all about written and spoken information.the word phonology refers to the branch of linguistics that deals with how words and sounds are organized in language.it consist two part . 1- phonological store 2 - articulatory control process
2- VISUO -SPATIAL SKETCHPAD -is concerned with visual or spatial task ,such as remembering shapes and colours ,or the location or speed of object in space.is also involve in task which include planning of spatial movements.it has two part
1- visual component dealing with object and visible feature such as shape ,colour and texture .
2- spatial component dealing with locations and movements in space.
3- THE EPISODIC BUFFER - an additional component was added called the episodic buffer .the episodic buffer act as a ' 'backup ' store which communicates with both long term memory and components of working memory.
4- CENTRAL EXECUTIVE SYSTEM - It was added 25years later to complement the central executive system.it drives the whole system (the boss of working memory )and allocates data to subsystem;the phonological loop and the visuospatial sketch .it also deals with cognitive task such as mental arithmetic and problem - solving.
