The biggest problem that one will encounter when working with colleagues from different countries is the issue of metacognition.Metacognition is thinking about thinking.We have certain thought patterns or behaviour about a particular culture which we inadvertently apply .For instance,laughing out on an issue which might seem funny to one person whereas it would be offensive for the person belonging from different culture.One needs to adjust their mental schemas according to the particular cultural setting.

There has to be adequate strategic planning about what are the goals and what all could be the limitations for acheiving the goals in culturally diverse situations.  Inter-cultural sensitivity is required where one should respect the norms,values and beliefs of other culture without applying any judgement.

For instance,if there is a group of 10 employees in a marketing team where 3 people are from Bihar,three from Australia and 4 from China,then all the team members should try to respect each others’ culture and belief of ethnocentricism should be disregarded .The australians should not make fun of Bihari slang neither should the Chinese.

When meeting or interacting with people from different countries or cultures,open mindedness should be present where there is unprejudiced attitude towards people from different cultural backgrounds and every culture is accepted with equal amount of respect and dignity.

For that matter,cultural intelligence is an important factor which is a tendency to relate to different cultural situations and be able to work efficiently in those situations.Cultural intelligence leads to better cultural adjustment which improves cultural effectiveness at your job place.

People should behave and respect other cultures and sentiments.Whenever you encounter such situations ,one should first adjust their mental schemas,do strategic planning and the behave accordingly keeping personal stereotypes,prejudices and differences aside to meet the desired goals.
